Away day for young Artists
A group of eleven and twelve year olds swopped Whitley Bay for Edinburgh to spend a day studying and practising art. The youngsters, who are all pupils at Valley Gardens Middle School, spent the day at Edinburgh’s Museum of Modern Art studying the work of Leith born artist, Eduardo Paolozzi who gained renown for creating collage and sculpture from objects that had been discarded by others.
Head of Art at Valley Gardens, Kristian Grundy, who organised the visit, also tasked the youngsters with creating their own collage work created from things they found or photographs they took on the day. Pupils were extremely focused throughout the day, even working on their collage work during the return rail journey. Staff at the Museum of Modern Art complimented the group on their behaviour and maturity.
